PREPARATIONS are underway for the next of the popular Flea Markets organised by Towy Events at Carmarthen Showground.

The event on Sunday, November 17, from 10am to 4pm is the perfect place to buy vintage Christmas presents that won’t be found on the high street.

Vintage costume jewellery will be amongst the ‘best buys’ with a huge selection of pieces available to buy for just a couple of pounds each. Whilst beautiful in their own right - things like broaches making a lovely gift when put in a pretty box, many of the pieces you’ll find offer great opportunities for up-cycling.

Enamel flower pins and rhinestone broaches look great when strung together to make a statement necklace. Earrings too can be used to make an unusual bracelet. Vintage costume jewellery is also great for decorating picture frames and even your Christmas tree, plus you’ll find instructions on how to make all these things with a quick search of the internet.

It’s not just vintage jewellery that can be up-cycled to make a unique and inexpensive gift either. Within a few minutes of arriving at one of Towy Events’ Flea Markets you’re guaranteed to find some vintage china that you like and again many of these items will cost just a few pounds. Why not take a cup or a bowl and plant it with some hyacinth bulbs, decorate with a ribbon to complete the look.

Many of the exhibitors at the Flea Market also carry small pieces of furniture that offer a wealth of opportunities for giving a new lease of life. With just a coat of paint you’ll achieve the shabby chic look that’s so popular at the moment.

Meanwhile collectors will find something to interest them at every turn. From toys to military memorabilia, prints and vintage garden tools there really is something for everyone.
