STAFF at a Kidwelly pet food company are celebrating more than 50 years of doing their bit to keep people safe.

Employees at Burns Pet Nutrition have spent more than half a century completing voluntary service with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

The company has five members of staff who between them have notched up 57 years helping out the fire service on a voluntary basis.

The community-spirited Burns staff include Peter Morris, maintenance manager, Mike Fitzpatrick who works in the warehouse, Spencer Chilvers, a graphic designer, and mechanics Wayne and Chris Eldred, who all balance out their daytime jobs with answering 999 calls both during the day and evenings to help put out fires across the county.

Burns Pet Nutrition was started by John Burns, a veterinary surgeon who has spent more than 30 years in pet nutrition.

Mr Burns said: "As a company we believe it is important to put something back into the community.

"We are extremely proud of our staff members who are not only enthusiastic employees but are also extremely brave members of the local fire service.

"Firefighters put their lives at risk everyday and play such a vital part in protecting us all."
